Smithsonian's Boeing 307 Stratorcruiser Crashes
http://www.avsim.com
A very sad moment for aviation history - Boeing 307 Stratoliner, the world's first pressurized commercial airliner built in 1939, made an emergency crash landing in waters of Elliott Bay, West Seattle early yesterday. Luckily, all four people aboard got out safely with no serious injuries.
The Boeing 307 Stratoliner, which is one of only 10 such planes ever built by Boeing and the only one remaining and flying was discovered in a flight museum in Pima, Arizona, some years ago and restored for the Smithsonian over past six years by 30 retired Boeing workers in Seattle. This airplane was scheduled for display in the new Simthsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., when it opens in 2003.
